Troubleshoot Cisco Phones

Hi, I am Alejandro at Voiceopia, and I am going to teach you how to troubleshoot your new Voiceopia phone.
 
The very first I like to check is that the device is getting power. This may be through a power cable that looks like this or it may be on the same line as your internet connection. If you only have an internet cable and are not sure if it is being supplied power check a working phone around you to see if it is using a separate power adapter.
 
Once we have established the phone has power, let's see what's going on. If you get an error message that say "Initializing Network" or the mute button is flashing red this means your phone does not have a connection to your network. We can fix this by checking the cable plugged into the phone. The cable could be bad or the port on wall may not be connected. If you get an error message that says "Checking DNS" or "No response" or your line buttons are flashing orange this means either the phone is connected to your network but it is not getting an address from a router or the internet is down or your location may not be whitelisted. We can confirm which of the 3 it is with some quick testing.
 
First, let's confirm that the internet is working by checking to see if there are any devices that are working. If not then I suggest troubleshooting that first. If other devices are connected to the internet, try checking to see if your phone has an IP address by pressing the "paper" icon and then pressing "9" this will bring you to the "Network" information. If your phone does not have a "Current IP" this would indicate that the phone is not getting an address from your router. This could be in the case that your router is down or you need a special network settings to connect to your network. If you do have a current IP but the phone is not working this would indicate that your location may not be whitelisted to connect to the PBX. Please give us a call so we can get your location whitelisted ASAP or continue the troubleshooting process if thats not the issue.
